Belief in Cross River State, especially in Calabar, the state capital, is widespread that children are believed to possess diabolical powers to attack anyone they so choose. Virtually every misfortune is attributed to witchcraft.

The Ministry of justice in partnership with UNICEF in protecting the rights of the child has sought ways into protection there rights by sending a bill prohibiting every form of witchcraft or accusing any child of such under the Child Rights Act of Cross River State.
